“Shiatsu” is the Japanese word for finger pressure. The Shiatsu practitioner applies pressure and gentle stretches to specific points on the body which can ease pain, tension and symptoms of disease.

A Shiatsu treatment is based upon the principles of Traditional Chinese Medicine, a system formulated over 2000 years ago which perceives the body as a unified whole in which all symptoms, physical and psychological, are taken into account.

"I was recommended to Megan by a chiropractor/osteopath for an upper back problem. Apart from alleviating the problem – the one aspect of Shiatsu which I would recommend is the tranquility."

"Megan’s presence is calming and her practice is thoughtful and sensitive. I know I always feel stronger, taller and more balanced when I walk away from one of her sessions"
Our body is always trying to achieve a state of balance for optimum performance. However, stress (whether physical, mental or emotional in origin) can create local tensions within the body which may impede the flow of our blood, lymph and vital energy or “Qi”. If left to persist, these blockages can become painful and interfere with the elimination of harmful waste products, thereby weakening our immune system and encouraging chronic symptoms and ill health.

Pain and ill health are important indicators from our body, asking us to creatively review our lives and address the situations which have caused them. Shiatsu, being non-invasive, uses compassionate and therapeutic touch to enable the body to shift imbalances and attain a higher level of vitality and self-awareness. This, together with practical dietary and lifestyle advice, can allow positive steps to be taken towards regaining control of our lives and realising our true and creative potential.

Shiatsu can be a powerful healing technique to help maintain health, vitality and stamina, by strengthening the internal organs and encouraging the free flow of “Qi”. Shiatsu can help to:

• reduce the effects of everyday stress and its related disorders, e.g. headaches, digestive and menstrual problems, insomnia, muscular tension, anxiety, depression, to name but a few
• detoxify the body and strengthen the immune system
• restore good posture, alleviating back and shoulder pain
• assist in the recovery from injury, repetitive strain syndrome, major disease or surgery
• put you in touch with your body and feelings and create dynamic change
• lift the spirit and leave you feeling tranquil

* Please note: Shiatsu works safely in conjunction with conventional medicine, but please consult your doctor.

Megan studied Shiatsu with the late Chris Jarmey at the European School of Shiatsu. She has over 25 years experience giving and teaching Shiatsu in the UK, Europe, USA and Tanzania.
"The ‘massage’ is given whilst fully clothed – and this is reassuring . Megan’s fingers play over the body – she is listening – she can ‘hear’ the responses – and she responds to what she ‘hears’. Whenever I have left Megan it has always been with a spring in my step – and a feeling that the rain will stop and the sun will shine."
